You speak eloquently and have seemingly read every
book ever published. You are a fountain of
endless (sometimes useless) knowledge, and
never fail to impress at a party.
What people love: You can answer almost any
question people ask, and have thus been
nicknamed Jeeves.
What people hate: You constantly correct their
grammar and insult their paperbacks.

What Kind of Elitist Are You?

(I'm also a food snob. But too many of the questions were about wine, which I don't drink. :) )

I was going to put a large number of curse words in the title, but decided not to.

Today I decided to venture into town, non-functioning Northern Line notwithstanding. I get to the station and wait. Someone asks one of the LU staff when the bus will be there. He replies "well, they're coming about every half hour". Wonderful. Keep in mind that Woodside Park has no buses, which is why they've laid on the replacement bus service. OK, I tell a lie, it has the 383. Which comes every half hour and goes to Barnet Spires via a very meandering route. For the record, I can get a bus to the tube from the high road (221 to Bounds Green, 125 to Southgate, 82 to Finchley Road) but they'd take quite a while.

Anyway, I wait, it shows up, I get to Arnos Grove. The Piccadilly line is not doing well under the strain: the train was full up at Arnos Grove. In mid-afternoon.

On the way home, same routine, train to Arnos Grove, then the bus. This time I'm lucky, bus is right there. I get on. Later, I notice we're on Oakleigh Road North instead of Friern Barnet Road. Hmm. Next thing, we're going by Totteridge station. Eh wot? It would at least have made sense if he'd gone to High Barnet first (even though the bus was "all stations TO High Barnet", but Totteridge? But this is irrelevant because he didn't even stop. At this point we realised that the bus driver had no idea where he was going. Which is not only pathetic for a bus driver, but pathetic for anyone, since there are direction signs posted for the rail replacement buses!

Another passenger and I were forced to direct the bus driver to Woodside Park station. This was complicated by someone else telling the driver to make a right off Totteridge Lane. This meant he was going down the back way, and you can't get into Woodside Park station from that side! We managed to get the driver to go down Argyle Road and around to the station.

I have no idea if he managed to make it back to Totteridge and then to High Barnet. He may still be lost.

Way to go, London Transport. I have written a complaint.
