The Tube has been fucked for 2 days. Yesterday there was a signal failure at Kennington, then a fire alert at Waterloo. I waited 18 minutes for a train going further than East Finchley, only for the supposed Bank train to become an East Finchley one. I gave up on the Tube at Euston. Today the signals were still screwed up, High Barnet trains were only via Bank, and everything was delayed.
In addition to that, yesterday i waited TWENTY FOUR MINUTES for a 13 bus at Oxford Circus (normal frequency: 8-10 minutes). There were none. I did notice that I didn't see any going the other way either; but there was no indication at the bus stop that the 13 had been moved. There were no 113s either. :/ (I could have taken a 113 up Finchley Road and changed.) After the aforementioned 24 minutes, I gave up and braved the tube. At least there were Edgware trains running via Bank yesterday. (9 minutes wait, and it was the first train on the board.)
(I've checked TfL buses. The 13 is going entirely to modern double deckers on the 22nd, but that's the only news.)
(And NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! The 38 is going BENDY on the 30th!!! I hate the bendies, especially on Oxford Street. Actually I don't much like modern double deckers and do like the Routemaster, though I'm not one of those "preserve the Routemaster" reactionaries. They're not wheelchair accessible and that is a real problem. I don't give a shit about injuries from people jumping off the open rear platform. If you're stupid enough to jump off a moving bus you deserve to get injured.)
Returning to non-bus related matters (I will not be the new deerfold): I bought a new towel to replace the one I left at Jen's (I only had 2 that big). £26, ow. But it was a giant fluffy bath sheet. I like thick towels.
Today I was supposed to go to the Tate, but after I booked the ticket, I realized I had to go to the doctor's to get a new prescription, and I had to go when they had an appointment. :/ So I've missed Frida Kahlo.
Later, I met Neil in Islington. We had a huge stuff-yourself curry (I'm very bad, shouldn't have mentioned curry to Neil!), with very poor service (they forgot our starters, but gave them to us free as an apology) and i got Neil to try my baingan bharta :) (Roasted aubergine dish.) He wouldn't, and I said, "oh come on it's lovely", scooped some onto my naan and made him try. And he liked it, though he's still pretending to hate aubergine on principle ;)
Then we saw Serenity, which was really excellent. Neil wanted to see it, I wasn't 100% sure--I'd only seen about 10 minutes of Firefly and not really gotten into it. The idea of "Space western" never really got me either. But it was great, though I'm not sure making them talk like Western caricatures really worked.
In totally unrelated news, the strap to my big messenger bag broke today, and I can't repair it (it might be possible with a sewing machine, but not with needle and thread). So I have to buy a new one tomorrow. :/ At least it's not expensive. This bag cost me about $40 5 years ago.
