Went to the Met yesterday, got caught in heinous traffic going home (over 1hr from Manhattan to the GCP via the 59th St Bridge), 2 1/2 hours total - and we left at 15:30! It's about 35 miles). Await my Art Rant, mainly prompted by the MoMA. :)
Quickly freshened up then caught the train to the city for dinner. (LIRR fares are stupid now. It cost us $32 for 2 offpeak round trips from Huntington. I remember when I was in college and an offpeak single went up to $5.75 and we all thought that was too much. Back then, you needed to have 3 people to make driving into the city worthwhile [cost of parking exceeding cost of tickets] and now it's 2. Less than 2 actually, but you have to use whole numbers. :) )
Anyway, we went to Gotham Bar & Grill for an early anniversary dinner--expensive but gorgeous (I'd been there before and knew Neil would like it). Neil even ate the grilled aubergine that came with his duck breast ;) And I ate the escarole that came with my lobster tails (along with roasted potatoes and whole cloves of garlic.... mmmm!)
My dessert was a strawberry souffle with white chocolate mousse cake and lemon poppyseed ice cream. Neil's was a variation on the S'more - warm chocolate tart, graham cracker crust, and vanilla marshmallow topping. Plus very nice petits fours (I love those).
On the train home, several cops boarded at Jamaica to take care of some customers who did not wish to pay the fare. (If you buy on board there's a hefty surcharge, and they were not best pleased at being asked to pay $10 for a short journey.)
Got home, watched Desperate Housewives which we'd TiVo'ed (and that reminds me, I didn't watch ER, oh well), and went to bed.
Bailey ate my dirty knickers!! Ew. (There's even more TMI to this but I'll leave it out.) Daft dog. She eats anything. She likes shoes.
