Yesterday did not go well...
Last night, Neil went to turn on the kitchen light. Something blew--he thought it was the lightbulb. It wasn't--it was the circuit for all the lights. He tried resetting the fuse box (I think); no go. So he had to ring an electrician.
Meanwhile, he'd turned his PC off so he could reset the fuse box. When he tried to turn it back on, it wouldn't. The switch has been dodgy for a while, but now, nothing. So no lights (from the fixtures; things plugged into the sockets were OK), and no PC.
Electrician came round this morning. He fixed the lights, but said that we need our whole place rewired as we've got the original 1960s wiring in here. He reckoned it will cost 2K :( (We WILL be getting second opinions/quotes on this...)
I went to the National Gallery for a bit this morning just to get out. I bought Neil a new fridge magnet to add to his collection.
Luckily, Neil called in his favours ;) and
papaspoof came round this afternoon to fix the PC. He found the problem and fixed it. Yay!
And in better news: I've just checked Self-Service Status and my laptop is now coming up as "Repair in Progress". Yay!
