I've given up on the reinstall. A friend said that it was insisting on a reboot because I can't install MacOS on the disk I booted from, and suggested that I try using my iPod as a boot disk. His method (copying the CD files) didn't work, but I found CarbonCopyCloner. The first time, it said my hard drive was still in use, but I worked out how to do a minimal start disk and that worked. Unfortunately the CD still insisted I restart and boot from CD. :-(

So I'll have to muddle through till Tiger comes out next week... could ask Jen if she's got her Panther CDs.

I leave for America today, yay! I'll miss Neil though :-(

It's 8:35am, my taxi arrives at 10:00, and I've just started packing...

And I need to go out before it comes--or I won't have the cash to pay for it!

Am bringing: large suitcase, garment bag, shoulder bag, laptop bag. :-)

(I don't have THAT many clothes actually but i want spare space as I'll want it on the way back... I'm going shopping ;) I need some stuff, eg new shoes, and I might as well buy it in the states as the exchange rate is so good.)

hello from the plane... I'm bored!! The entertainment system on this plane is the old one, not the on-demand system :( So I have to wait for the next showing to start.

on the plus side, the new DIY check in rocks. No queue and I got to see the updated seat map, so I switched myself into a row with no other people in it ;) Someone took the aisle seat for a few minutes but then she got up and left, so I've had 3 seats to myself. I had a pretty good nap for a couple of hours. I missed the meal service but I did my usual trick of eating before I get on the plane.

Oh, the packing was done in record time (7 minutes); I went to the cashpoint and the post office. I checked the exchange rate at Travelex at the airport and my suspicions were confirmed: it would've been a rip-off. The Post Office did $1.83=£1, no charge or commission. Travelex was 1.81, 1.5% commission, £3 charge. Go Post Office. $100 cost me just over 54 quid. I can use my ATM card in the States of course, but I didn't want to land with no dollars. I'd also like to minimize ATM card use, because the US bank will charge me $1.50 and NatWest will charge me something as well...

Flight got in slightly early. One of my bags was almost dead last coming off the plane--there were 4 other people left!

Parents had booked a car service to get me home because my mother didn't want to drive in rush hour traffic (let's be fair, when I booked this flight I didn't think anyone was going to have to pick me up...) Traffic sucked: it took almost an hour and a half to get home. (Craig - parents' place is near Costco)

We went to my sister's new house. Very nice. I'm jealous. :-) She broke her foot yesterday--slipped on the stairs. Bailey got big!

Picked up some Chinese food and went home. I've finally met the famous Benny. He's coming to the Seder... ooh la la!

Knackered now so I'm going to bed.
