Banks in this country are retarded. (Part V in an endless series.)

Neil has to give me some money, but he wasn't sure a transfer would go through by tomorrow afternoon.
I said, "well, you could go into NatWest and deposit cash".
Him: "oh, then it definitely won't be available till the close of business tomorrow".
Me: "What, you mean cash isn't available immediately?"
Him: "oh no!"
Me: "Why not?? You hand the teller the money, they enter it, it's there!"
Him: "No, it has to be sent for processing".
Me: "What, the teller can't just enter the transaction?"
Him: "Oh no, they don't let the people up front actually deal with people's accounts".
Me: "This is the most unbelievably retarded thing I've ever heard."
Cue him moaning at me for complaining. (Neil's defense of British banking, even the shabby treatment given by NatWest, is unbelievable.)

Apparently I am overly demanding for expecting money to be available after I put it in the bank.

I am starting to think that American bank fees and the lack of national banks are a small price to pay.

PS. NatWest have still not given us a joint account.

it's 20.15, I feel like shit, and I'm going to go curl up with the duvet and a book. I'll probably regret the lack of dinner at some point.
