Neil and I just went to NatWest to open a joint account. We were told that we needed to make an appointment and that there was no one in the branch who could help us.
This pissed me off. Make an appointment just to open an account?!! And what kind of bank has no one who can open an account? It's all computerized, FFS.
My take was that this was shitty service, that I am the customer and that they should be doing things at my convenience. My instinct was to go elsewhere.
Neil justified it, saying that it really meant "come back tomorrow" (if they meant that they'd have said so) and that all banks would be that way. He has no evidence for this though (he's had the same account at NatWest for 20 years and his parents opened it). Cue lengthy row on customer service.
