OK, I went to bed early and stayed there ;)
I didn't go to services yesterday. Woke up too late for the morning/early afternoon ones, and by the time Mincha rolled around (16:50) I was cranky and didn't feel like going. I did feel guilty later, as I saw everyone walking up the road. It wasn't just an "It's the holiest day of the year and I should have gone" feeling, either. I felt like I would've gained something if I'd gone, like I'd feel more connected to the whole experience. I think I feel more isolated now that I'm in a place where far fewer people are visibly Jewish, where I don't have my familial and cultural bubble that made me feel a part of things even if I never bothered to attend synagogue. Even then I tended to feel like I should be more involved; it was just less intense.
My mother arrives today. Eeek. I've been cleaning the flat as she's announced her intention to visit it at some point. Naturally we've not repainted or had the tiling done yet... oh dear! I did clean the fridge properly, though (i.e. took the shelves out and washed them in soapy water, then used glass cleaner). Must vacuum the lounge next, to the best of my abilities. (Current vacuum cleaner is crap, hence request of Dyson for wedding present. :-) )
