Sky installer (#1) came yesterday. We now have a point in our flat, yay! The box will be put in Tuesday the 5th.
Today I slept late, made brisket, and went to Kol Nidre services. They started 20 minutes late and the rabbi spent at least 15 on the annual appeal (this year's charities are Zaka [the group that does rescues and body-parts recovery at suicide bombings] and a group for lone soldiers in the IDF). The beginning of the service went really slowly, as so many of the prayers are repeated or done responsively. I think the cantor realized the natives were getting restless, though, because once we got to the Vidui he started going at a breakneck pace and started skipping bits. Or, rather, huge chunks.
I think the cantor also realized that there were a lot of once a year attendees, and occasionally stopped to give page numbers: "We're on page 112 in the Artscroll, 552 in the Birnbaum, and 52 in the Routledge..." It was all very non-religious, down to the people who'd parked down the road. :-)
Came home to discover that Neil had mostly ignored my request to clear away dinner. The leftovers were in the fridge but the plates hadn't been cleared. Instead he was playing Civ. MEN!
will probably not manage all the services tomorrow: not got the stamina!
