I'm having trouble with my left eye--it's all pink. It's not conjunctivitis. I've had that plenty of times and if it were, I'd be in searing pain by now. It's stayed the same for the past couple of days. I've taken my contacts out, but it hasn't helped. :-( And of course, this happens when I'm not on the NHS--I've got to hope it doesn't get worse! (Though if I were to be in searing pain I could go to A&E, which I AM allowed to use... or have Neil ring his GP and see if he'd do me a favor!)

On top of that, I went to bed before I was really tired, and had a shitty night's sleep. It wasn't helped by the drunks singing loudly as they walked down the street at 1am.

Did a roast dinner tonight. Now, I've done roasts before, of various types, without a problem. However, tonight's was a much smaller roast than I'm used to (only a single rib, just over 1kg) and I didn't have a meat thermometer.

End result: Nearly well done roast beef when we both like rare. Ooops. It wasn't at the shoe leather stage, but had only a tiny bit of pinkness left. Shame, as you could tell it would've been perfect if I'd taken it out 10 minutes earlier. When I first cut into it, it was stil nearly raw at the centre and needed to go back in, but I should've remembered it would cook much faster than I was used to.

Oh well. The rest of it came out all right at least. :-)

There are two things wrong with this country:

1) The willingness of supposedly-respectable newspapers to publish Prince Charles' pet theories on science;

2) Said newspaper then putting the summary on the front page under the headline "Prince warns against new 'thalidomide' disaster".
