Lazy day today. Slept late, went out. Got slightly annoyed at WHSmiths because they only had medium nib fountain pens (I like fine). Also, they were out of the Independent. Sainsburys had it though (and I had to go there anyway). Got some food, came back, spodded. Played with phone a bit, getting used to it now (my last few phones were Nokias, so I have a new interface and predictive text system to get used to).

I shall go have a shower shortly, I think. There was a notice up yesterday that water to the bathrooms would be off for 3 hours today (naturally they didn't say when), but it was on 10 minutes ago, so I assume it's done with already. Then I shall tidy up a bit.

Neil's at bridge tonight; I don't think I can be bothered with doing anything. I got an unlimited cinema card yesterday, but I can't book over the phone until I get my permanent one, and I'm not chancing a West End cinema on a Friday without advance tickets. (The nearest UGC cinemas are Enfield and Staples Corner, but the West End ones are easier to get to by public transport. Plus, the West End ones show the weird films, and if i were to go on my own I'd go see something Neil would never want to see, e.g. The Story of the Weeping Camel.)

The person in the flat above us seems to be drilling. This is the 2nd day in a row...

I just went to dump the garbage (OK rubbish). When I came back in there was a notice up from the water company (the earlier one was from the management). It said that due to "essential maintenance" the water supply would be shut off from 9am-12pm tomorrow. Someone had written across it "How ridiculous on a Saturday". I must agree--especially coming a day after our bathroom water was shut off!!

I am unilaterally issuing a household ban on the purchase of Jaffa Cakes.

On Wednesday, we did some grocery shopping. I picked up 2 packets of Jaffa Cakes (you can't get them in the US). By Thursday, I had eaten almost all of them (Neil had a few).

As I felt guilty about eating them all before Neil could have them, I purchased a twin pack when I went out this afternoon. I have already consumed 8 of them (a testament to the very high "scoffabilty factor" of Jaffa Cakes).

I can resist the ice cream sitting in our freezer, but I cannot resist the Jaffa Cakes. There's something about them. Once you've made the fateful decision to open the packet, you're done. You can't pass an open packet of Jaffa Cakes without taking one. Hiding it doesn't work. They send out their signal from inside cupboards. The only solution is to be strong and avoid the end of the biscuit aisle where they're kept. I'm thankful that they're not next to the rest of the biscuits. I can safely pick up a tube of chocolate digestives (which will last all week, because you can eat 3 digestives and be satisfied) without being subjected to the siren song of the Jaffa Cakes.
