I still hate Elmo. And I haven't seen Snuffy all week, but I keep forgetting to watch the beginning. Today I tuned in only 5 minutes late though, so I saw Oscar and Grundgetta. All the segments are in the same order every show now, which I think is boring. Mind you I'm one of those boring people who thinks that old Sesame Street was better. One, it had Kermit (who was retired after Jim Henson's death). Two, only Big Bird could see Snuffy. Three, the producers have made the multicultural- ness very heavy handed and PC. It's like they have a whole set of rules dictating the proportions of different ethnicities that should be in different segments, and they always put an emphasis on different cultures. It tends to come off as more than a little stilted and artificial, and almost as if they're ignoring cultures that aren't "different" (i.e. white middle America). I'm not anti-multicultural, but there's something about Sesame Street (and a lot of other PBS kids' programming these days) that grates the wrong way, and it's very hard to criticize it without sounding like you're some kind of cranky conservative.
