I've finally realized one of the main reasons I twist my ankles so much. When I walk, I don't put my foot down flat. Instead, I place the weight on the outside edge first. So if I step on a crack, my ankles (which are weak anyway, not least from so many twists and sprains) flip out.
I'm dumb--I noticed ages ago that my shoes wear out much faster on the outside edge. It's really noticeable on shoes with heels--the outside corner will be worn down half an inch and the inside one nearly new. But I never realized it was because of how I walk. I'm going to have to be conscious of how I walk now, because I can't take any more sprains. Last time I had a bad one, the orthopedist warned me that another one could tear the ligament completely. I don't think I've done it this time, but I did manage a pretty bad sprain on a fairly shallow dip in the grass, which isn't encouraging!
