As I said, we had a dinner reservation at 19:30. At 19:00 we headed down there as we knew parking would be a pain. Got there at 19:15, told the hostess we were there, had some drinks at the bar. At 19:35, we asked about our table. It seems Carly made a mistake: the reservation was for 20:00. Well, OK, our fault. Some more drinks. Rob discovered something called the Incredible Hulk, which is equal amounts Hypnotic and Hennessey--evil looking. At 20:10 we asked about our table. Not ready yet--could be another half hour. My grandmother got into a snit. Funnily enough we got sat down 5 minutes later.
We got the menus, and it was a 4 course set menu, not the regular menu. OK, fine, it's graduation and they're booked solid. We got asked to order everything including dessert at the beginning, which we did. The first course (salad) took a little while, but showed up maybe 25 minutes after we ordered. By 21:30, the 2nd course hadn't appeared. In fact it seemed that no one had gotten their food. We waited. At 21:40, my mother complained to the manager who said our food would be right out. At 21:50, it wasn't. My mother tried to complain again but the manager was nowhere to be found. We did find the waitress, who was nearly crying and said they'd had a party of 35 (!) None of us were believing this. One, they should never have booked a party of 35 on graduation night; two, it didn't explain the complete lack of food anywhere (and the front room of the restaurant was nearly empty). At 22:00, after having a gripe session with the table next to us (Carly's roommate and her family) we walked. So did they. So did the party of 10 near us (who chose the moment that their salads arrived). As we drove around the block we saw about 50 people in front of the restaurant! Becca (Carly's roommate) said that their waiter went into the back and quit!
There's still no explanation for why. Becca said she heard that they ran out of food, but that doesn't make any sense: set menu, all reservations; they should've known how much to order, and even if they screwed up how could they run out of everything? Plus, salads DID arrive. I think something got seriously fucked up in the kitchen.
So poor Carly got her graduation meal at the local TGI Fridays. I felt so bad for her....
