9 months? Ha! Especially when I made the mistake of looking on bridal websites, which all think you've allowed at least a year to plan the event. According to them, I should be buying my dress now. I then made the second mistake of looking at dresses. I foresee a problem, at least if I was looking at a representative sample. I want a traditional dress. One, I'm conservative in my tastes. Two, I don't have the kind of figure I'd want to show off even if I were more daring. And three, my family is resolutely traditional. I mentioned elbow length sleeves as a possibility and got a horrified reaction. As far as they're concerned, a bride should show as little skin as is humanly possible. I'm not quite that old fashioned--I won't shriek if my collarbone shows--but it's still long sleeves, no cleavage, no bare back.
Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be current style. Instead, I'm seeing a plethora of sleeveless, strapless, and generally revealing dresses that I can't wear--even ones specifically in my size range. I really hope I have better luck when I go to look. There are stores that cater to the Orthodox market but I don't want to go that far!
