Just about done :-) The apple tarts have 5 more minutes to go, and I have to turn the dishwasher on (the kitchen is clean, though). Yes, the timestamp is correct, 01:26... this is my own fault. I only had to do the tiramisu (cake layers already made) and the tarts (pastry already made). So I didn't get started till about 19:30 ;) I couldn't have done it this morning as Mom had taken over the kitchen, but she was done by 14:00. I was lazy, though.
(As for the other desserts: Chocolate cake layers baked in advance and frozen, currently defrosting. I'll fill and frost them tomorrow, as if I'd done them today I would have had to store the cake in the fridge, and there's no room. Cheesecake done Tuesday night. It needs a minimum of 24hrs in the fridge. Cookies done last weekend, and I now remember why we always do 2 double batches [one plain, one with nuts]--people in this house have a habit of sneaking them ;) Mom did the Jell-O mold. It is a tradition that she make this, that only 1 or 2 people eat it, and that the layers slide apart shortly after unmolding.)
Our fridge is packed. We had to put it on its coldest setting as there's so much in there that air isn't circulating properly. Luckily, it's just under 40°F, so the vegetables and the turkey are currently in a box outside our back door. This year's turkey is a measly 25 lbs. True to form, our butcher did not pluck it properly. Turkey quills are fucking huge. You can't pull them out!
Oh, and instead of doing regular candied yams, Mom has done something involving canned pineapple and mini marshmallows. My sister and I agreed that this is dangerously trailer-trash, but failed to convince her. In the past, we've tried explaining to her that it's easy to find fresh yams (OK, orange sweet potatoes, to be botanically correct) these days, and you don't have to use canned ones. She keeps buying canned, though!
