I had to go pick something up for Carly at her old summer job, so I did that this afternoon, then went looking for a coat (I was ordered to). No luck. Now, I know what kind of coat I want. Black, long (mid-calf to above the ankle), wool/cashmere blend, lined (no specifics on style; I can never remember if single or double breasted looks better on me till I try things on.) Being so definite has its advantages--you can pass over all the unsuitable ones very quickly. It also has disadvantages if they don't have what you're looking for, and today I didn't. There was one that was semi-suitable and would have done in a pinch, but I wasn't ready to settle so quickly. It was on sale, too, but I refuse to be swayed by simple cost. My old coat lasted 4 years. When you think about how much I wore it, and amortize the cost over its lifespan, it's not at all silly to buy something good. And if I find something I really want, it shouldn't be significantly more expensive.
Also had a look at some clothes, as long as I was out. Mademoiselle Definite strikes again. I wear long skirts (I hate having to pull them down, and I'm cheap when it comes to tights) and I don't want all of them to look like office wear, which is what you tend to get. Occasionally you'll see floaty hippie-type skirts in summer, but in winter, you get a lot of wool. It's either that or Lands' End type knits, which are OK but not very stylish. Saw a few things, including a very nice and not too goth black velvet skirt (but I won't buy it as it was $169 and I just won't wear it that much).
(Heh, this edit has taken 1½ hours to write--was interrupted to go walk the dog and then to get and eat Chinese food. I took steak out, but Mom had a jones for moo shu pork.)
