He left College Park (just north of DC) at 10:00 and got here just before 5:00. Ow! (Distance, according to Yahoo! Maps: 240mi, estimated travel time 4h20.) It took him over an hour and a half to get through Delaware, which normally takes 15mins including time spent at the bridge toll plaza. It seems that they'd decided to close all but one lane (in the middle of the day, on the country's busiest interstate) in order to... fill potholes.
He also got stuck in traffic on the NJ Turnpike, then again after the Verrazano Bridge. The Belt is a nightmare. It's better than taking the tunnel and going through Manhattan to the LIE, though. Plus, you get to avoid the really scenic part of the turnpike! *cough* (Again for the non-locals: the built-up area in northern NJ, across the Hudson/Kill Van Kull from New York City, is infamous for the view of factories, chemical plants, and oil refineries which is visible from the highways. There are many scenic, even beautiful, parts of New Jersey, befitting its nickname of "The Garden State". Unfortunately, none of them are visible from the northern NJ Turnpike.)
