It's funny. It used to be that "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" was one of my least favorite tracks on The Joshua Tree. I didn't hate it--there isn't a truly bad track on the album--but I didn't love it. Last night, it came on the radio and I realized I like it a lot now. I started singing along and crying a little (there are songs that make me do this--actually, I've just become a complete sop in my old age; I now cry at sad bits in films too). Then, of course, the station ruined the mood by playing Billy Joel's "I Go to Extremes" (not one of his better efforts) after.

95.5 did another horrible segue later, by following Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" (which is very soft and relaxing--I love her voice) with Matchbox Twenty's "Unwell" (I don't particularly like Matchbox Twenty in the first place, either).

I don't often do politics in here, but this has me fuming.

Andrew Wilkie, Nuffield Professor of Pathology at Oxford, responded to a PhD application from an Israeli, Amit Duvshani, with this e-mail )

Now, IDF service of 3 years is mandatory for all Jewish Israeli men (there are religious deferments, but you can't use them to get out of serving unless you want to spend at least 10 years studying). His service in the IDF was not a choice. And in any case, the first paragraph seems to be the more significant one.

Oxford University has an anti-discrimination policy, and Professor Wilkie should be held to it. (He's admitted writing the e-mail, and "apologized" for expressing personal opinions in an inappropriate forum.) It doesn't matter what the Israelis have done--an individual Israeli cannot be held responsible for the actions of his government.

The first boycott rumblings were bad enough. This is just illegal.

Still debating. I went looking last night. The cheapest decent camera I saw was $250 (BestBuy price, about the same on amazon). That's before tax, or buying memory cards... so all in all, a bit more than I want to spend.

I think I might wait till after the weekend, as I'm being dragged to Atlantic City on Saturday. I'll see how I do ;-)

Netflix finally received the 2 DVDs I mailed last Monday... the day after I complained to the USPS. Hmmm ;-)
