Got up early and did the shopping. It was already hot and sticky--glad I got it done with.
Related but slightly tangential: I seem to be one of those drivers who plots ways to avoid traffic. If I see it getting clogged up, I immediately think of alternate routes. I try to keep some perspective, trying to balance mileage versus speed (i.e. a slightly longer route may take less time if the shorter route is traffic clogged, but if you add too many extra miles it doesn't matter how fast you go) but I see myself becoming the kind of driver parodied in comedy routines. "Oooh, looks like it's clogged up after the Southern State merge... best get off and go via that.... OK, Southern State is nice and clear. Do I go north on the Wantagh or the Seaford-Oyster Bay? Well, if I take Wantagh, I'll hit that traffic at 106/107. Want to avoid that. OK. Damn, clogging up.. here's Wantagh Ave, should I get off, take it north to Hempstead Turnpike and connect to 135 from there? Oh wait, duh, this is exit 28 and 135 is 28A... [10 minutes later] Damn, another traffic jam, I can see it's continuing.. Oh, this is Plainview Road. I can get off here instead of Old Country Road." Etc.
And Netflix still haven't received the DVDs I posted Monday. Grrr. If they don't arrive by Monday I'm complaining to both Netflix and the USPS. I've reported 2 DVDs lost already--this is getting silly. All my lost ones have been posted at the same box, too.
