covered it with plain whipped cream and topped it with strawberries :) The cream was very yellow though. It's not sour or anything, just more yellow than usual. Maybe it's the time of year. I buy organic Jersey cream (it's thicker and whips better), which isn't mass-produced and the cows' diet probably varies by season. It's always a little more yellow/cream colored than the regular supermarket cream (which is nearly white). It's not a problem, really; it just looks strange.

Yes, I know, evil and fattening. Don't care. :) I only had 1 slice anyway.

It's currently 32°C/90°F and it's only 10:50am :)

Heat index is up to 35°C/96°F.

Our pool was just cleaned, though, and it's warm enough to swim in! Not quite as warm as I like, but definitely not cold.

Reminds me--I heard a rumor that Jones Beach parking was up to $20 for non-pass holders, but I can't find any info on it. Must go phone. (I have a county pass, so I can get into Nassau Beach for $5, but I like Jones Beach better; it has more facilities.)

Ah. Just phoned. Mom got it wrong. She thought it was $8 with a pass, $20 without. It's $8 without and free with. :-)

There are 2 kinds of park passes:

1 is a county pass, called a "Leisure Passport". This is a photo-ID card issued per person and allows you to use all county parks and recreation facilities. It mainly exists to prove that you're a Nassau County resident--it either gives you access (to resident-only facilities) or gives you the resident rate. It costs $15 for 3 years, measured from the date of issue. I have this. (Nassau Beach is a county park.)

2 is a state pass, called an "Empire Passport" (New York = The Empire State). This is a sticker you put on your car. It costs $59 for a year, running 1 April - 31 March, and gives you free entrance to all state parks. You can get a 2nd pass for the same household at a reduced rate of $20. I don't have this.

The town also has its own park system, but they don't have a special pass system AFAIK. I've never been to the pool complex or anywhere they ask for proof of residency so I'm not 100% sure.
