I'm glad I didn't go yesterday--it seems that Borders was only selling it to people who had pre-ordered copies. Sales were opened up today. They still gave me the 40% off preorder discount though (bringing the price from $29.99 to $17.99) so I was a Very Happy Bunny. (Speaking of which, I really think $29.99 is VERY high for a kids' book--the first 4 had much more sensible price points and the 4th was huge too. Guess the publishers figure they can sock adults for the money. :/ )
The store was a mob scene. The hype is somewhat worrying. on the other hand, it's kind of nice to see people (especially kids) as enthusiastic about a book as they would be about a film. And I've heard from teachers that it's helped kids get into reading other books too, so it's got its good points. I just hate the way the media and the publishers have turned it into a circus.
