I made sweet potato fries for (well, as part of!) dinner tonight. Mmmm. I try not to deep-fry at home. The whole process of having to use 2L of oil for a single dish is somewhat off-putting, even if you know 95% of it is going to be cooled and put back in the container for disposal. (It's not a good idea to re-use oil. Among other things, re-used oil has a high risk of bursting into flames. Just in case any of you were going to suggest I do that. :) )
I cut myself doing it though :-( I use a mandoline fitted with a french fry blade so all my fries are evenly shaped and the right size (about ½" square). Sweet potatoes are not the easiest things to cut, even with a razor-sharp mandoline blade, and I was pushing down on the far end with the palm of my hand because I was having trouble with the guard. End result: pushed the base of my hand into the french fry blades. I now have 5 parallel cuts at the base of my left hand.
Right now I'm having a cup of the Charbonnel et Walker chocolate drink. It's quite nice, and has a distinctive taste that's different (in a good way) from regular hot cocoa. It's not as strong as my usual brew, though, and I made it extra strong as it is. 4 tsp my foot :) (Also had to add a spoonful of sugar. The balance was OK at regular concentration, but when I dissolved more chocolate and stirred it in, it got slightly bitter.) My usual cocoa has 1½-2 tbsp of cocoa per cup and a lethal amount of sugar :-)
