I saw soft-shell crabs in the fishmongers today :)

(Soft shell crabs are blue crabs that have just shed their old shells, which they do in spring. If they're taken out of the water right away, they don't grow new shells, and you can eat them whole.)

They were live, too, so super-fresh. I'm going to go back Saturday and see if they have them again. Soft-shells are worth the trouble of cleaning them :)

Since I was 17 or so, I've been 5'7" tall. Or so I thought.

My mother, sister, and I were in the kitchen the other day, and my sister was teasing my mother that she was really short. She's about 5'4". I told Carly not to be so funny, because she's only 5'5". She said no, she's 5'6". I said that was impossible, because I was more than an inch taller than her, and I'm only 5'7". She said she'd been measured at her last doctor's appointment, and she was 5'6".

We lined ourselves up back to back and had my mother look at the difference. (I had my hair pulled back, by the way. ;-) ) She said there was about 2" difference.

So I may actually be 5'8" tall. You'd think that wouldn't make much difference to me; it's only an inch. But my height had become part of my self-definition. It was one of the unchanging things about me: Blue eyes, brown hair, 5'7" tall. It's very strange to think I might be taller.

This also means, by the way, that Jen is definitely 5'10". She always claimed to be 5'8", and I'd say, no, you've got to be at least 5'9" because you're at least 2" taller than I am.

I'm going to have to have myself measured at the doctor to find out for sure. For some reason I can't think of myself as five feet eight inches tall until I've got confirmation.
