You know how some people are afraid to voice opposition to Bush because they think they'll be criticized for it?
I have the reverse problem. I hesitate to voice opposition to Bush because I fear I'll only get lots of comments bashing the US. :(
As it happens, I do think it sucks that people are getting so much flak for what are really pretty mild anti-Bush statements. I mean, Bob Kerrey calling for "regime change" in the USA--well, what else is he supposed to say? He's a potential presidential candidate! *shakes head* People have a right to express dissent. That's why this is the USA, not Iraq. None of this is at a "Hanoi Jane" level--if it were, people would be pretty justified in commenting.
I tend to be pretty dismissive of anything that entertainment figures have to say about major world events. It's mainly on the "Um, killing people is bad, okay?" level. But they have the right to say it (and we also have the right not to listen). I think boycotts and so on are really going way too far. Part of the reason we're in Iraq is so Iraqis will be able to tell us or anyone else to get lost without worrying about the secret police coming for them.
